Who we are

Adoption and Foster Care Connection (AFCC) is a Georgia based not-for-profit organization. AFCC is actively serving families. The AFCC mission is to support children and families before, during, and after adoption and foster care.

Need

Adoption and foster care are notoriously difficult for children and families alike. Children who have experienced the pain of neglect or abuse and the loss of their initial caregivers tend to arrive in a new family carrying that pain.  As time goes by, a healing process must unfold.  Even with healing, these children often present behaviors that require significant resources from their new foster or adoptive parents. Parents assume these responsibilities via their commitment to the child or children and need equipping and resourcing both before and after placement.

Solution

AFCC offers equipping and resourcing to these children and families. Equipping comes through mentoring, church-based education and support, and even college and high school campus encouragement of a new generation of potential adoptive and foster parents. Resourcing comes most significantly through direct household financial support, particularly in the case of large families. AFCC provides grants to adoptive and foster families to help offset the high cost of raising additional children. This includes educational scholarships for children and young adults, from foster and adoptive families.

We believe parents who choose to adopt and foster need both short term and long-term support. For instance, for most adoptive families, state support will end quickly or may have never been present, yet many of the child’s educational, therapeutic, medical and personal needs will not become fully visible for years. Our vision is not that families who foster and adopt will have to do with less, but that they will have more than enough resources to meet their children’s unique needs.
